what is citymakers?

citymakers is all about urban design reviews, (initially) in Brisbane, Australia.

citymakers is interested in quality urban design, or city making, through buildings, infrastructure, streets and places.

citymakers lets you read and write reviews about urban design near you.  You can make comments and use the simple rating system to state your views.

citymakers is a community and a resource. List new places and projects around you and start fresh conversations.

how do I write a review?

Click Add new review when viewing an individual listing (such as a building, infrastructure, street or place).  You will be asked to rate the project using the rating tool, and to make written comments.

what do the ratings mean?

Ratings are by their nature subjective, but we’ve kept the rating system as simple as possible. Whether the item is a building, instractucture, a street or other type of place, we've split the rating into three parts.

  1. Form (how does the project look and feel?)
  2. Function (if it's not functional, it's not much use. How well does it work?)
  3. Environment (does it fit well into its local context? and how environmentally friendly is it?)

The overall rating is an average of the three parts.  You must include ratings for each review.

It’s all about the quality of the city. Here’s what we think the stars are worth:

doesn’t work, or doesn’t look good. I hate it. Poor city making

forgettable.  I dislike it.  Below average city making

OK. Average city making

brings a smile to my face. I like it. Quality city making

best of the best. I love it. World class city making.

how long should my review be?

There's no hard and fast rules.  It's up to you to decide on the style and the length of your review.  We only ask that you give your honest, considered view, whether that is negative or positive or a bit of both.  But please avoid abusive or disrespectful comments.

how do I add a listing?

To list and then review a project or place for the first time, make sure you register and/or login. The click add listing from the main menu (near the top of the page).

On the listing form you can add information about the listing, including the project’s name, address, cost, project team (if known) and a description. Up to four images can be added too. Then you give the listing its first review and start the conversation.

how do I register for citymakers?

Simply click Login / Register in the top right of the screen to activate the drop down panel with the login module. Or click here.

why are there no listings for my city?

We think there’s nothing worse than loading up your home town on a database only to find there’s next to nothing there. We’d love citymakers to expand to cities all around Australia, but we think it’s better to grow slowly, one city at a time. If you have listings to make in a city that is not yet included, tell us about it.

what are the terms of use?

citymakers terms of use can be found here. In short, you agree to be respectful to other users and to the projects listed, and allow citymakers to use the information you provide to operate the site.

can I make comments or suggestions about citymakers?

Yes. Contact us!
