Great for cyclists crossing the river
The Goodwill Bridge is busy with walkers, joggers, cyclists and roller bladers day and night. Links Queensland University of Technology and the government precinct with South Bank's many amenities and its rail and bus stations.
Protests at the time of its construction about growing costs have been long forgotten, and in fact the Goodwill Bridge has turned out to be a pioneer for more recent active transport bridges in the city, both in function and design.
On the Goodwill, travelers have the option of enjoying the superb river views from a number of viewing decks and seating areas positioned on the bridge. There's even a mobile coffee cart stationed half-way at peak times. The bridge design also included shade cover over the deck, an early example of contemporary subtropical (infrastructure) design.
If that's not enough, it's got an eye-catching structure to boast about, which point up and then cleverly ducks beneath the Captain Cook Bridge just in time to make landfall at Gardens Point.
