When I first saw this construction from a distance, I thought it was hideous. A spiky, jagged, mish-mash of poles, slung across the river, looking acutely out of context with the buildings behind it. From afar, it still makes me shudder, however, I've now walked across it a few times, and, from the inside looking out, it's impressive.

I like the high-tech yacht feel of being aboard. The aerodynamically shaped wings are smooth and segue well with the thick, slick stanchions and slender cables. And the view, as someone pointed out, is almost 300 degrees of river bridges.

Superb cover from heavy rain and sun, plenty of water fountains, and comfortable viewing platforms.

The indigenous connection is a nice touch. Perhaps the descriptions being in other languages would have been an idea too.

I'm suddenly inspired to walk this bridge. I wonder why I haven't done so yet.

My feelings about the visual form change according to the angle of view. When the bridge is framed against the river, it excites me. When I see it against the backdrop of city buildings, it confuses me, the contrast doesn't work for me.

From some angles the steel columns have pleasing asymetry; from other angles they jangle and jar. Hmm, maybe all this makes it a very interesting and intriguing bridge, constantly changing, depending on juxtaposition.

Interacting on thecitymakers has inspired me to participate with the bridge, to walk it and view the river and city from its perspective. See what I can learn.

Thank you!

One of those love it or hate it talking points that real cities have. One can't help comparing Kuripla to the Go Between Bridge a short distance upstream, constructed at the same time by the State and Council respectively. Incidentally, Kuripla is reported to have cost the same as the Coronation Street Viaduct/Overpass! Chalk and cheese.

We say Kuripla Bridge is stunning and unique. A bold design and technological challenge that put Brisbane in the design spotlight when it opened in 2009. We think it will continue to shine as Kurilpa takes visitors directly into the South Bank art precinct and its highly successful Gallery of Modern Art. Another big investment in footbridges and quality design with subtropical comfort features (shade, seats and water) for users. Excellent city making.
